Assistive Attachment
“The Gift of Shirley” collaboration with Landon Tate The language and ways of interacting with religion has and will always change. From engaging with statues to prayer beads, there is no one set way of accessing spirituality. Shirley Herzberg is 84 years old and wants to reach a higher spiritual plane during the rest of her days. She believes she finds God the most when she’s taking people as they are, she possesses great strength and controls along-side a warm-hearted love for Christianity. This piece seeks to remix archaic forms of accessibility and investigate what it takes to explore “the other” further through means of garmentry.

Body in discovery explores different realms of my personal body identity. I am a 20 something-year-old black American woman with several chronic illnesses.

Much of this work avidly explores my personal lineage and my experiences with Crohn’s disease.  This body of work thrives on the intersectionality of the black, female, and wounded vessel.
